Get to Know the Anatomy of an Eyeglass

Eyeglasses Consist of Various Parts

Eyeglasses are used to correct or improve a variety of vision problems. Whenever someone thinks of a pair of eyeglasses, or simply glasses, they think of a single piece of eyewear that can be placed on the face. However, glasses are composed of various parts, each having an important part to the functionality of the glasses.

Temples

These are the part of the glasses that runs alongside the head and extends behind the ears. They have plastic or rubber pieces that cover the end of the temples, called temple tips, which provide comfort behind the ears. The temples are important in securing the glasses to the face.

Hinges

The hinges are the small mechanisms or end pieces found at the corner of the glasses. These serve two main purposes. It connects the temples to the frame front of the eyeglass and it allows the temples to swing at a 90 degree angle, allowing them to bend outwards when in use and inwards when not in use.

Frame Front

As the name suggests, the frame front is the front part of the glasses. It contains two eye wires or rims that surrounds and supports a glass lens. Glass lenses are made of either glass, plastic or polycarbonate material that contains optical characteristics, specifically designed to address or fix vision problems. The frame front also contains nose pads, which are soft attachments to the frame that supports the rim on the nose while providing comfort.

Bridge

The bridge is the part of the glasses that connect both rims. It is arched upwards, over the nose, and supports majority of the weight of the glasses. Bridges come in various sizes to accommodate the width of a user’s nose, allowing for a comfortable fit. Glasses may also have a double bridge, which includes a top bar above the regular bridge that provides better reinforcement.

Screws

Screws are the smallest components on a pair of glasses, but are extremely important. They are needed to connect the different parts of the glasses. Without them, the temples and frame front would not be connected to the hinges, lenses would not be properly secured into the rims, and nose pads would be loose and sit uncomfortably on the side of the nose.

The next time you look at a pair of glasses, remember that it is comprised of various, smaller parts. These parts can be changed if they become damaged, or if you wish to customize your pair of specs. Dynamic Labs are wholesale distributors of eyeglasses hardware parts. Protect the Glasses that Help Improve Your Vision

Keep Your Glasses Safe

Glasses are used to improve vision for people whose vision may not be great. Some people can function well without having to use them often, while others may need them all the time, otherwise people and objects may appear blurry. In either case, glasses are needed for a better sight for people with vision problems.

When glasses are used constantly, the lenses are exposed to various obstructions. These include smearing, dirt residue, and cracks and scratches. These can obstruct and hinder vision, defeating the purpose it was made for.

Properly Clean and Protect Glasses

That is why it is important to keep them clean while being used, and protected when it is not. You can use common items around the house to do this; however, there are specialized optical cleaning products that can be bought. These products were designed to ensure glass lens and the glasses themselves, and kept in good shape.

Lens Cleaners

Soap and water are good for hands, but not for lenses. Washing lenses with water may get rid of dirt and other particles found on the lens, but can leave behind smears and smudges.

That is why glasses owners should purchase cleaners. These liquid cleaners were specifically made to clean lenses without leaving anything that may further affect vision when the glasses are worn. These cleaners also help preserve the protective coating on glasses that may otherwise be damaged by other liquids or chemicals.

Microfiber Cloths

When using a cleaner, you will need a cloth to while it dry. Regular cloths won’t cut it! Sure, it may get rid of the moisture, but at the same time can leave behind particles of the cloth material and create smears. That is why you should always have a microfiber cloth nearby.

These cloths were specially made with a material that will not leave behind any particles. Microfiber glasses are also used to get rid of smudges on dry lenses, and other particles without damaging the lenses. So the next time you think about picking up any random piece of cloth to wipe your glasses then think again!

Pouches and Protectors

Glasses are never worn one hundred percent of the time. Even those who absolutely need them to see will eventually remove them to sleep or even take a shower. But when you take off a pair of glasses, never leave them lying around any random place. This exposed them to the possibility of obtaining scratches, cracks or breaking.

Pouches and glass protectors help keep them safe. Pouches are small little bags that glasses can be placed. While it may not a great option compared to protectors that prevent breaking, it help protects the glass lenses from scratches. Plus, it is more convenient to carry around in hand.

Protectors are protective cases that conceal glasses. Think of them as miniature chests for your glasses. Storing them in these cases prevent damages to the lenses, and lower the possibility of damage if dropped.

All Eyes Are Different – Why You Need a Variety of Optical Supplies

1

Online Optical Supplies Make Ordering Easy

In your practice, you see a lot of patients. The most important thing to remember as they walk in and out of your office is that their eyes are not all the same. While it’s tempting to stock only one brand or type of optical products, doing so can hurt your business model (and even hurt your patients!). To stay competitive in the optical industry, it’s important to offer a superior customer experience. Here are some things to keep in mind when ordering the optical supplies for your office or shop.

Nose Pads

The most common material for eyeglass nose pads to be made of is silicone. Silicone is a flexible material that adjusts easily to the shape of the nose, making it easy for the glasses to achieve proper distribution on the face. Silicone nose pads are also easy to clean with soap and water, making them a simple and often comfortable solution for many people.
However, with silicone it is important to achieve the correct comfort level. Every person’s nose is shaped differently, which means there’s not a “one size fits all” solution for silicone nosepads. Silicone nosepads come in many shapes, and it is important to stock different styles in order to be able to provide a comfortable solution to each person who walks through your door.

In addition, a lot of people experience sensitivity or have a full allergic reaction to silicone. This often shows up as a red rash or similar outbreak. Nose pads can also be made of Ultra Thin Polycarbonate (a hard material), or a semi soft vinyl. These materials are also available in a variety of shapes. For some people, who have more sensitive skin or an unusual face shape, it can be a delicate process to find the correct fit. By stocking a wide selection of nose pad options, you will make sure every patient or customer walks out the door feeling happy with their glasses.

Eyeglass Cleaners and Cloths

You never want to let a patient or customer leave your establishment with dirty lenses! (Whether or not they realize it, the squeaky clean lenses are their favorite part of coming in.) The important thing to remember is that glasses lenses are made of many different materials, and each material has different cleaning needs. With anti reflective coatings, bifocals, even tinted lenses…it can be easy to make a mistake. By having many different types of cleaning cloths on hand, made of different materials, it will be much easier to provide top notch service to all your customers. Added bonus: keeping more clothes on hand means less laundry while making sure each cloth stays clean!

Glasses Accessories

No matter how you slice it, stopping by for a routine glasses adjustment isn’t an exciting errand. To make a stop by your office or shop more fun for your customers (and more profitable for you), keep an easily visible display (no pun intended) of cases, visor clips, and clip on sunglasses in your establishment. Your customers will enjoy browsing the accessories while they wait, and you can rest assured that you’re fully catering to their vision needs.
